My name is Sam Ferguson, and I am a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training with a strong passion for supporting athletes through the mental side of performance. I am dedicated to helping athletes develop the psychological skills, self-awareness and confidence needed to perform at their best while maintaining wellbeing and enjoyment within sport.
My passion for sport psychology developed through my own experiences in tennis. I played tennis from a very young age and progressed to compete professionally for several years. Throughout my junior career, I achieved the No. 1 ranking in Great Britain at both Under-12 and Under-14 level, reached a career-high ranking of No. 6 in Europe for my age group, and had the privilege of representing Great Britain in international competition throughout my teenage years. I also proudly represented Derbyshire at county level, competing regularly in national competitions.
Competing at an elite level and travelling internationally gave me first-hand experience of the demands that sport places on athletes, both on and off the court. Through these experiences, I developed a deeper appreciation for the psychological side of performance and the powerful role mindset plays in confidence, pressure, resilience and long-term development. Experiencing these challenges myself inspired me to pursue a career in sport psychology, where I now aim to help athletes navigate their own sporting journeys with greater self-awareness, confidence and wellbeing.
Through Ferguson Sports Psychology, I combine my professional training with first-hand experience of elite sport to provide a supportive and relatable environment for athletes of all ages and levels. My aim is to help athletes build confidence, develop the psychological skills needed to perform at their best, and enjoy their sporting journey.
